Somatic Experiencing and CBT | Mind-Body Therapy for Anxiety & Trauma Relief

In my practice, I integrate Somatic Experiencing (SE) with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to create a balanced approach to healing. Both methods work together to address the ways trauma, anxiety, and stress affect not only the mind but also the body.

Somatic Experiencing helps us pay attention to the body’s natural responses to stress and trauma. Many people carry tension, restlessness, or a sense of being “on edge” long after a difficult experience has passed. SE offers gentle ways to notice and release these patterns, restoring a greater sense of safety, calm, and presence in daily life.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on identifying unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that can keep people stuck in cycles of anxiety, self-doubt, or avoidance. By bringing awareness to these thoughts and practicing new ways of responding, clients often find greater clarity, confidence, and freedom in how they approach challenges.

Together, these approaches create a mind–body pathway to healing. CBT provides practical tools for shifting thinking and behavior, while Somatic Experiencing supports the nervous system in finding balance and resilience. This combination allows us to work both from the top down (mind to body) and from the bottom up (body to mind), creating lasting change that feels both grounded and empowering.
